Inspiration – new ideas – flow

Flow – pure happiness”
Karin Reichwein

Inspiration is a very important and interesting subject area. What inspires us? When are we inspired and what feeling of happiness does this trigger in us? A new idea is an exciting thing – it stirs in us a keen interest in the unknown and at the same time we test to see whether it’s an idea that could be realized and put into practice. People who are successful at work and in their private lives are masters at being “inspired by the unknown”. They constantly seek out inspiring environments. Breaking out of one’s habits, trying out new things and succeeding at them are characteristic traits in many successful people. They also mention that they have sometimes tried out inspiring ideas but not incorporated them into their everyday lives or work, while feeling that they had nevertheless gained some added value at that moment. However, if an inspiration is very interesting they pursue it. From this comes a flow, a fluid balance similar to a floating condition – a feeling of happiness for the newly-gained knowledge. The flow theory was first developed by Mihály Csíkszentmihályithe, a psychologist specializing in happiness research, and it has a significant influence in terms of the challenge-skill balance required to prevent the imposition of workloads which are either under-demanding or excessive. Inspiration can also be a major factor in decision-making; an unknown thought can lead to sudden clarity.
